PARENT INFORMATION

PRACTICES... Weekdays, late afternoon or early evening, lasting about one hour. At the beginning of each season, there are usually extra Saturday practices.

GAMES...
Baseball, Softball, and Basketball: 9 or 10 per season.
Soccer: 8 per season.  For Baseball and Soccer, most games are on Saturday and last about one hour for younger age groups and slightly longer for the older ones.
Teen Soccer: At least 12 games.

Twilight Games replace normal practice times during the week, toward the end of the season. Basketball and Soccer teams have one twilight game; Baseball and Softball teams have two. 11-13 Girls' Softball teams and 11-12 Boys' Baseball teams play three NIGHT GAMES.

The older leagues in each sport participate in single elimination PLAYOFFS, in addition to their regular game schedule.

RULES... FBA has its own set of rules for each sport. These are designed to: HELP EACH CHILD DEVELOP; GIVE EVERY CHILD AS NEAR EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY AS POSSIBLE; MAKE SURE EVERY CHILD LEARNS THE GAME.

The rules are graduated, so that as the child grows older the rules become closer to the accepted standards for that sport. In the absense of a specific FBA rule, we use: LITTLE LEAGUE rules for Baseball; ASA rules for Softball, FIFA laws for Soccer; and IHSAA rules for Basketball and Teen Baseball.

FEES... We prefer payment by check, payable to First Baptist Athletics. Payment is required at time of registration.

REGISTRATION FEES PROVIDE...

Uniforms: Baseball/Softball: Team Shirt and Major League Baseball Cap
Soccer: Team Shirt and Soccer Socks
  Basketball: Team Shirt

Team Picture: In addition to a team picture, individual pictures and other extras can be ordered directly from the photographer.

Awards: Participation Award; Trophies for 8 yr. olds leaving the 7-8 Baseball League. Trophies for all participants graduating from FBA. (We do not award trophies for winning.)

Equipment: All Athletic Equipment is furnished by FBA, with the exception of baseball mitts and soccer shin guards.

WHEN SHOULD YOU REGISTER? AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE!
Registration dates always precede the beginning of each sport. Verteran FBA parents know to SIGN UP EARLY. In addition, each season, registration forms are mailed to the parents of the previous years' participants in that sport well before the new season begins.

DEADLINES? In all sports, the deadline for registering is that time when we have reached our maximum enrollment. In basketball, for example, our enrollment is often filled before the open registration dates. Decisions about the number of teams and the number of players per team have to be made long before any season begins. We cannot add players or teams after enrollments are filled. WE MAINTAIN A WAITING LIST IN EACH SPORT. UNTIL THE GAMES BEGIN.

PARENTS PACKETS: Parents of players enrolled in each sport receive a packet of information at the first team meeting, by mail, or at the first practice. Each packet contains:

  • Booster List
  • League Rules
  • Calendar
  • Playing Field Map
  • Church Information
  • Practice Schedule
  • Game Schedule
  • Team Roster

FBA POLICY ON AGE CUTOFFS: In fairness to everyone, our age breaks are ABSOLUTE and we make NO EXCEPTIONS. To make sure that children of the same age range are playing together, we use birth dates as cut- offs rather than school grade. Your child's age on the cut off date is that child's age for us in that sport for that year. The dates are: Baseball - July 31 Soccer and Basketball - August 31

We rely on our parents to use the honor system in reporting birth dates. We don't require birth certificates. We trust parents will understand and support our age policy.

FBA VOLUNTEER POLICY: All FBA volunteer coaches and officials - regardless of age - must undergo a screening process which includes a limited criminal history check. We believe it is important for the protection of everyone that we have this safeguard.

FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND SPECIAL REQUESTS:  As a family oriented program, we are committed to meeting the schedule requirements of busy people whenever possible. Siblings of the same sex in the same league are automatically on the same team. We are happy to pair friends as long as these requests don't create a team of buddies. We also cannot switch players or team assignments after teams are formed. We will honor as many requests as we can, consistent with our time constraints and our fundamental principal of fielding balanced teams. We appreciate your cooperation.
